The fleet

Wingbeat vans sleep two adults in a generous double bed. If needed, there is space for a small child on an extra bed. It is not suitable for children over the age of 3 (dimensions of extra bed: W 54cm x L132cm).

The front cab seats three and can be fitted with a child seat (non ISO fix).

The beauty of our bespoke long-wheelbase Mercedes Sprinters is in the detail: custom cabinetry, polished parquet flooring and mattresses like your own. It’s a home, albeit compact, on wheels.

  • You’ll need your driving licence - if your licence has expired or is in the process of being renewed, please email info@winbeatescapes.com. Other than that, bring clothes, drinking water and food.

Wingbeat vans come with all bedding, towels, hand soap, washing-up liquid, basic cleaning supplies, kitchenware, crockery, glasses and an awning. We also provide picnic gear (enamel mugs and plates, a Yeti cool box and a picnic blanket) and roof rack for SUPs and kayaks.

There should be ample water for washing up and showers for a few days but we do recommend you bring your own drinking water.

If you need anything specific, such as wellies, changing robes, fishing rods, golf clubs or paddle boards, let us know – we hire high-quality equipment for an additional fee.

  • The beauty of our vans is that you aren’t limited to commercial campsites. That said, you must use discretion and act within the law.

The unique Scottish Outdoor Access Code gives everyone statutory right of access to land. These rights apply to all inland waters and unenclosed land. However, these rights do not apply to vehicular access. Many non-tarmacked roads, unfenced areas of land and beaches in Scotland are on private property and you have no right to drive on this land unless the landowner has authorised it.

Scotland’s ‘right to roam’ comes with a responsibility: to respect others, care for the environment and be accountable for your own actions. Above all, you must leave no trace; take everything away with you, down to the smallest of remnants of your presence. We ask that all Wingbeat drivers exercise discretion and common sense at all times.

Many forestry reserves welcome self-contained campervans for a nominal fee – see Forestry Land Scotland for details.

  • Our campervans have solar panels on the roof and a large leisure battery. Your campervan will have at least one three-pin socket, which is perfect for low-level regular use – so while the battery is happy charging phones and laptops, it finds hairdryers a bit of a drain.

Kitchenette

The campervans have twin gas hobs and an 80-litre fridge with freezer compartment, so you can cook up a storm on the wing. In the bespoke shaker cabinets, you’ll find basic cleaning supplies, pans, kitchenware, crockery, glasses and picnic gear.

Additional equipment

You’ll have a roof rack for SUPs and kayaks. If you need anything specific – wellies, changing robes, fishing rods, golf clubs etc. – let us know; we hire high-quality equipment for an extra fee, subject to availability.

Bathroom

Bathroom facilities are small but perfectly formed. In a separate cubicle you have a washbasin and loo or shower, depending on how you configure it. The loo is on rails and slides out easily into a cabinet, making space for the shower.

Dogs

Provided you let us know in advance, we will be happy for you to bring one medium dog (e.g. a spaniel) or two small dogs (e.g. terriers). A £60 premium applies to hires with dogs to cover our extra cleaning fees.

Adventure ready

Whether you are a foodie, a sea swimmer or a mountain lover, we have you covered – with Yeti cool boxes and picnic gear as standard, and wellies, changing robes, fishing rods, golf clubs and SUPs for hire.

Solar panels ensure you can be off-grid for the duration of your trip with no need to go near a commercial campsite. Instead, let instinct and curiosity be your guide.

Booking a campervan

2 drivers | Breakdown cover | No mileage limit

  • You will have full comprehensive insurance for two drivers, provided we have all the requisite paperwork. The insurance does not cover your personal belongings, which are at your own risk.

All vans also have roadside breakdown cover – but we keep them in tip-top condition so are confident you won’t need it.

  • Standard hire covers you for driving in the UK. If you want to go further afield, let us know.

  • We will need a 20% deposit on booking (refundable, subject to Terms and Conditions) and full payment 30 days in advance. We will also need a copy of your driver’s license and proof of address 14 days in advance.

  • Three days before your hire, you will receive a link to a number of short videos that explain how to operate the solar panels, taps, power, etc. We ask that you watch these prior to the handover to save time.

If you watch the videos in advance, the handover should take around 20 minutes. If not, it can take over an hour.

  • We strongly advise that you take out your own insurance against unavoidable cancellation.

    - Should you require to cancel your booking more than six weeks before the first date of the Rental Period departure date a full refund is applicable.
    - Should you require to cancel your booking between six to four weeks before the first date of the Rental Period the Deposit will be retained by Wingbeat.
    - If you cancel your booking within 28 days of the first date of the Rental Period before your departure date, the full amount will be non-refundable.

We reserve the right to cancel your booking should you not meet the following criteria:
    - Failure to pay the Total Rental Cost 28 Business Days before the first date of the Rental Period.
    - If any information you have provided us with at booking is incorrect or invalid. E.g. Driver’s licence number.

When collecting the Rental Vehicle, all documentation provided must match the booking details you provided.

  • You can collect your van from us in the Southern Uplands, an ideal jumping-off point for The Highlands, Lowlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Yorkshire and the Lake District. Or you can opt for our concierge service and be collected from (and returned to) the nearest airport or train station.

Wingbeat offers free on-site parking for those leaving a car with us. The car will be kept under cover with CCTV on the driveway but left at the owner’s risk.
